Application Procedures for the Seattle 2012 Conference (Saturday, July 14 - Saturday, July 21, 2012)

Candidates must possess either Japanese or American citizenship. Japanese and American applicants should download the application cover sheet before preparing the following documents in English:

1. A detailed resume (CV) listing achievements and a passport sized photo;

2. A signed letter of recommendation from an individual who is a leader in your field;

3. A personal statement of two to three pages by the candidate explaining the following: how you have been, are, or will be a leader in your field; your reasons for wanting to participate in USJLP; how you might contribute as a Delegate (participant) and as a Fellow (alumni).

The Foundation will accept applications via email as PDF attachments, or by postal/courier mail. American citizens should submit materials to the New York Office, and Japanese citizens to the Tokyo Office. Only fully complete applications (including at least one signed letter of recommendation) received or postmarked by December 16, 2011 will be considered for the 2012 application year.

Selection of Delegates

The Scott M. Johnson Fellows Executive Committee will be asked to present recommendations to the Foundation from among the pool of applicants. Due consideration will be given to diversity of gender, political, regional, social and educational backgrounds. The final decision on Delegates will be made by the Foundation. The Foundation intends to notify all applicants of the decisions in March 2012. Delegates who successfully participate for the first time in Seattle 2012 (or another previous conference in Seattle) will be invited to attend their second conference in Japan 2013.
